Our History

our story

The first Malioboro Restaurant was opened in January, 2000 at Jalan Kediri 50, Kuta, Bali in January 2000 and shortly followed by the opening of another restaurant named Hayam Wuruk on June 24, 2000 located at Jalan Hayam Wuruk 88, Denpasar, Bali, taking the street’s name as its brand. We provided our customers with delicious soft bone chickens as our unique signature dish. The chicken was marinated with our special recipe and pressure-cooked to ensure that the whole chicken, including the bones, was soft and edible. The soft bone chicken turned out to be a favourite cuisine among residents and since Bali is a hugely popular holiday destination, it was also a hit among tourists, thus attracting many loyal customers worldwide.

Our unique products, combined with its special taste, creates a strong product differentiation strategy for our restaurants that is unlike other regular fried chicken with hard, inedible bones. At this moment, Malioboro and Hayam Wuruk restaurant chain has twenty outlets in Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bekasi, Tangerang, Depok, Padang, Pekanbaru, and Yogyakarta. The growth of Malioboro and Hayam Wuruk restaurants in the past twelve years is a great testimony of public acceptance of the excellent taste, warm atmosphere, and reasonable price of our restaurants.
